Parts of the ward were kept up; however the force of the ward was severely lessened, the amount of time it took for the ward to reset was lengthened, and the alarm that let the owners know their house had been broken into was (hopefully) not set off. It also knocked out the security system, leaving the smell of burnt plastic lingering in the air. It also knocked out David. Anton took the Jade magician home.

The house had that "new" look, like no one had ever lived there (though there was some food in the fridge - some bread and cheese, both fresh). The pictures on the side tables came with the frames. The paint was a generic bland colour. And it was clean - no foot prints on the rugs or scuff marks on the floors. It had the feel of a house that people rarely stayed in: a show house... or a safe house.

The bedrooms were the same, though a diary was found in one room. It was pink, with a lock, and had the words "My Secret Diary" on it. "Do they even make these anymore?" was what Jack asked. When Allan opened up the diary, a single piece of paper fell out of it. The diary itself contained row after row of names and dates. The paper had more information on it: a name, a date (for early the next morning), a time (2 am) and an address which doesn't exist: 500 Emerald S.

The basement was where things really became odd. There was no heater, nor a washer, nor a dryer. The washer and dryer could be excused, but no heater in a Canadian home? It was inferred that the people who stayed in this house must have no need for a heater, though what this means or if it is true is unknown. The rest of the basement was unfurnished, but finished. In fact, it was very recently finished: the scent of the paint still hung in the air. Furthermore, there were still patches of dry-wall that were wet, indicating that there were holes in the wall which were patched up with putty. [1] Through a variant of a tracking spell, Allan discovered the scent of rust in the walls. (He was looking for blood, thinking this was the scene of a Fight Club.) Apparently, there were chains in the cinder-block wall for so long that they had rusted, and was recently removed.

Just as Allan and Jack were about to leave, someone came to the door. Both made a mad dash to the back door. Jack managed to get out without any problems, but Allan was a little slower on his feet. He called out (mentally) for help, and an air-spirit named Eurus came to his aid, sending a large gust of wind outside as a distraction to the individuals, and putting Allan in his debt.

As a result of their intrusion into the house, that house will not feel "safe" again.

With their gloves still on, the two made their way back to the car. The ninjas in the trunk were still in the trunk. Allan grabbed some random papers from inside the glove box, thinking that he'd be able to look at it later. Meanwhile, Jack (while driving) was looking at the paper... which promptly was blown out the car window.

After much discussion, research with a map, Google-triangulation, and searching through the diary; it was determined that the location referred to a place in the Royal Botanical Gardens.

Unfortunately, the RBG is huge. Fortunately, there are guide-maps everywhere. They found a clue that made them realize they were looking for an Emerald Spruce, not Emerald Street.

Jack decided to scout, and quickly came upon two individuals: a man and a woman. They were talking business. One handed over a box containing two tufts of red hair. "A matched set!" said the recipient, obviously pleased. They continued to walk and talk... and that is when Allan's cell phone went off.

While Jake had been tracking and spying, Allan had been texting what they discovered to Anton. Anton replied. Fortunately, Allan's cell ring was the call of the Great Horned Owl - highly appropriate because he never knows "Who" would call him. The two individuals looked around for the owl, but didn't see them. They almost saw Jack, however.

After the owl incident, the two parted ways. Jack followed the woman, and managed to get a partial license plate. Jack returned to find Allan apparently incanting a powerful mystic spell, complete with odd Latin phrases that was being muttered under his breath. Jack choose to wait until Allan was finished before they left, not realizing that Allan was just passing the time by reciting the names of all the bones of the human body. He stopped at the hip-bone.

Unfortunately, on the way home, they saw the police investigating their illegally parked car - one that was apparently stolen. It is unknown if the ninjas were still in the trunk. As a result, Allan and Jack walked home out of a different exit. It took several hours.

While Allan got a few hours of sleep, and than began to study; Jack went to the Community Center to see if he could get the partial plate traced. He tried to go about it in a round-about way, asking Sergant Terra Providence to show him how to do it. She saw through the ruse, had him step into his office, and closed the door. The resulting dressing-down was awkward to say the least, as Terra was trying to straddle the intersection between "You really bleeped up" ; "you're still a kid and are supposed to bleep up" and "what did you discover that could help us"? Finally, the Sargent ended with the need to come clean. Jack replied "Come downstairs. There's something you need to see." He proceeded to bench-press almost the entirety of the weights available in the gym in the basement. After a discussion as to whether or not Jack was from Krypton, Jack said "I'm just coming clean." Sargent Terra asked if his friends were equally unusual, and if they would be interested in coming in. Jack said he would ask them.

  1. OOC note: eventually, those patches of paint will fall off due to the wetness of the putty. I know this from impatient experience... That may or may not have relevance in future stories.
