He finds three snow-encrusted giants moving purposefully in the direction of the cabin where his friends are sheltered, and attempts to divert them. Meanwhile Rishon and Jayne, drawn by the sound of thundering footsteps, find themselves surrounded by giants and unable to escape. Fortunately Chet had followed them and manages to distract the giants enough for his friends to get away.

Once Charles drives off the giants, he helps get the Wolfe Island ferry out of the ice of the frozen strait and back to shore. On his way he spots an mermaid-like creature on the ice in the distance. Charles gets back to the School of Monsterology and immediately goes into research mode. He finds out that there are several monsters associated with ice and cold, including the ice selkie, the snow giant and the frost wolf. He realizes that the wolf-like tracks he was first following could not possibly have belonged to Bruce MacTire, since they were too big, but must have been made by a frost wolf!

By morning the weather returns to something more seasonal, and the shaken and scared people on Wolfe Island make their way back to Kingston. Bruce is brought to the hospital, and everyone gets some well-earned rest. }}{{#set: image = File:Three snow giants.jpg }}

On Wolfe Island, Charles Monster tracks his quarry.
