Kettel is an engineer in Machina's capital city of Los Asemblos. She spent decades working on some of the kingdom's most ambitious projects when its industrial revolution took off.

6' tall with gazelle's horns. Sand-coloured skin with black tips on the hands and face. In retirement, she's been developing her own inventions and taking the occasional jobs from anyone willing to pay her rate. She hasn't given up wearing mechanic's suits, and probably never will.

Being part of a tiny minority of Dama in the city, Kettel has heard every racist joke or remark ever made. Usually, she can brush them off and carry on. The worst offenders become victims of petty revenge and a little mechanical sabotage.

Kettel is assisted by a small flying gyro named PAK (Personal Assistant to Kettel). PAK is the size of a soccer ball, dark blue and roughly spherical with brass rings around its middle. It hovers using a rotor on its top and has a large green crystalline eye that doubles as a lamp. PAK is equipped with a small complement of essential tools, and is capable of performing basic tasks on command. "He" communicates using beeps and whistles, which Kettel can understand fluently.

History
Kettel was Chief Engineer aboard the Valley Echo.

The Echo strayed too close to Gearwhistle over the Valley of Cogs and was boarded by their forces in disputed territory. The Machina Captain was belligerent and ignored their demands to keep a wider distance from their border.

Kettel and her engineering team took control of the ship from the engine room and turned it back against the Captain's orders. The Captain was taken prisoner, but the rest of the crew were released.

Kettel was dishonourably discharged from service for the Captain's arrest, but was respected by the crew for getting them home safely. She hasn't worked with the Royal Airship Fleet since.

The Valley Echo was powered by a prototype engine, designed by Kettel herself with the help of Blaze Kindling. Kettel and Blaze formed a good working relationship, and remain friendly, although they have not worked together on any project since. The prototype engine is vastly more efficient than previous versions, and there is speculation that further punitive action was not taken against Kettel because she did not allow the prototype to fall into enemy hands.

Stunts
; Dama Speed : +2 to overcome with Athletics when running speed is an issue.
; Smarter than the Average Drone : Once per conflict, take an engineering action with PAK in addition to a normal action.

Kettel's Log
; Tower of Serpents : Great start! Fell over the wall into a giant puddle. PAK was soaked and had to drain out before charging his battery again. Champagne found way to make Madeleine shut up for a little while, so we stand a better chance of leaving this place without waking anymore trapped spirits. This place makes my ears twitch in a bad way. Blaze found another dragon's skull... I hope that wasn't someone he knew. Everyone's found a bit of stuff to carry out with them, but I would't mind a towel to dry off. Do sorcerers use towels?

; Tower Escape : We made it out of the tower by parachute and a boost from Blaze to get us over the wall. Took a hard hit on the way out and I can barely hear a thing. Champagne managed to talk us out of trouble with the Governor and Hugo, but we aren't out of the woods yet. I can't stand the sight of that idol. I say we toss it and motor back to Los Asemblos before another opportunist finds us.

; So Long, Riverton :
Leaving town did not go as planned. The sorcerer caught up to us. Champagne talked him into going back to his tower so we could make a run back to Samar, where he caught us again. Champagne threw the the idol back at him! Bloody Nika blew her top. We ran as fast as we could and left a disaster of fire and destroyed market stalls behind us. Note to self: consider upgrading the engine on the cart...
* Impending Issue: Spies abound in Machina; even Hugo the Charitable is rumoured to be an agent of Gearwhistle.

Sessions
Jan. 11, 2016: creation session. This setting was created using a session of Spark for Fate Core. See the Bits and Baubles creation session notes.

Jan. 18, 2016: Welcome to Riverton.
* We flesh out the protagonists and introduce them to the city of Riverton.
* Geshon the Mouth tells the protagonists to seek out Samar the Caravan Master.
* Samar the Caravan Master convinces the protagonists to retrieve a strange statue (the Idol of Hellaq) from the Tower of the Serpents.
* Bloody Nikka promises gruesome revenge if the protagonists double-cross Samar.

Jan. 25, 2016: Factions.
* The group meets up with Kettel, who nearly gets into a fight haggling over scrap metal.
* The Governor summons the party to the Temple of Hadrin. With Helen Thirdcoin as backup, she bullies them into agreeing to bring her the treasure from the tower instead of bringing it to Samar the Caravan Master.
* The party convinces The Governor that what Samar is after is a book of spells; they agree to bring The Governor the book in exchange for 3600 crowns -- quite a sum!
* The party is invited by Little Hâr to see Hugo the Charitable. Hugo also offers them money to bring him whatever Samar had wanted, to the tune of 10% of the fenced price.

Feb. 1, 2016: Casing the tower.
* With a cleverly-built periscope, the team scopes out the Tower of the Serpents. They discover that the guardian of the tower is a giant mechanical gorilla.
* The group plans out how to get out, deliver the various packages to the various parties and skip town.
* Madeleine D'Leau blows all her money on useless potions, steals some money and buys even more useless potions.
* We all made shrinky dinks of the various characters (pics to come).

Feb. 8, 2016: Climbing the tower.
* The team subdues the mechanical sentry by electrocuting it in a giant puddle of water.
* An overwhelming feeling of dread grows stronger as they ascended the tower's many levels.
* Blaze Kindling is angered and horrified to find the skull of a dragon, carved with intricate runes and symbols. Blaze takes the skull into his care and is seeking revenge.
* Madeleine D'Leau finds a jar and releases a serpent made of light. She chases it up to the top floor, where they find the Idol of Hellaq encased in crystal.

Feb. 22, 2016: The Idol of Hellaq.
* The light serpent is found to be guarding the Idol of Hellaq.
* Madeleine D'Leau gets knocked out by the light serpent and is carried to safety by Mr. Lutro.
* Champagne Truffle defeats the light serpent by trapping it in a mirrored box, and the party escapes by jumping off the top of the tower.
* The party is approached and threatened by Hugo the Charitable, by The Governor and by the sorceror himself.

Feb. 29, 2016: Leaving Riverton.
* The sorceror accuses the party of stealing from him and summons earth gollums to attack.
* Champagne Truffle lies to the sorceror, convincing him that his tower is being looted, and he departs, leaving behind the earth gollums.
* The party defeats the gollums through a combination of fire and smashing.
* The group then proceeds to Samar the Caravan Master's caravan, only to be accosted by both Bloody Nicka and the sorceror.
* Outnumbered and overwhelmed, Champagne Truffle throws the Idol of Hellaq at the sorceror, leaving the team an opportunity to flee
* Pursued by the sorceror, Bloody Nicka, and her goonies, the team escapes Riverton safely via Kettel's cart

Mar. 7, 2016: The Road North.
* Champagne Truffle asks around for information about Madeleine D'Leau as they follow the road north out of Riverton. She plies Kettel and Blaze Kindling with crowns for their help.
* An innkeeper says that a few ruffians were asking about a woman and large otter. They also headed north after buying some supplies and bothering local merchants.
* The party finds a campsite that was quite obviously occupied by mages. Tracks lead them east towards a forest path.
* Setting off along the forest path, a hunter demands a toll for "maintenance and upkeep" of the trail. Blaze tricks him into reaching for a bag of crowns and burns his face terribly.
* A long fight with a gang of bandits ensues. The hunter is slain and the bandits take off into the woods, taking 15% of Champagne's coins with them.

Mar. 14, 2016: A Forest Temple.
* The party finds Madeleine D'Leau at a temple in the forest, among a bunch of hippie mages.
* They all head north to Los Asemblos and split up for a while, then reassemble on the road north.
* Heading off into the hills, the party camps and is disturbed by giant burrowing beetles in the night.
* Toward morning huge birds are seen flying around, and they attack the party.

Mar. 21, 2016: For the Birds.
* The group manages to kill the two giant birds: one is roasted by Blaze and the other is stabbed in the head by Champagne.
* The group continues north, asking at small towns about Pamplemousse Kettlegreen.
* The party leaves the inhabited portions of the country and eventually see smoke from the campfires of a military outpost.
* Kettel realizes that an old friend Eddie Sparks is at the outpost, and manages to get some information from him about Kettlegreen.
* Champagne convinces Sparks that she's a political envoy from the Truffle family, and he provides them an escort around the camp.
* The party goes off-road at the suggestion of their escort, and eventually reaches the Valley of Cogs.

Apr. 4 2016:

Apr. 22 2016: Big Holes & Big Deals
* Kettel catches up with the team after stopping to help Captain Sparks.
* Champagne is asleep after eating too much.
* Madeleine wanders off and finds a giant hole.
* Blaze is lowered into the hole and eavesdrops on a group of green-skinned beings with large ears and jaws.
* Dragon wing skin is found in the tannery, engaging Blaze.
* The group makes their deals with Kettlegreen and Blaze sets off.

* Current Issue: A search for a successor is on because there is no known successor to the dying Queen Selenium.

* Setting off along the forest path, a hunter demands a toll for "maintenance and upkeep" of the forest trail. Blaze tricks him into reaching for a bag of crowns and burns his face terribly.
* A long fight with a gang of bandits ensues. The hunter is slain and the bandits take off into the woods, taking 15% of Champagne's coins with them.

* Impending Issue: Spies abound in Machina; even Hugo the Charitable is rumoured to be an agent of Gearwhistle.

Sessions
Jan. 11, 2015: creation session. This setting was created using a session of Spark for Fate Core. See the Bits and Baubles creation session notes.

Jan. 18, 2015: Welcome to Riverton.
* We flesh out the protagonists and introduce them to the city of Riverton.
* Geshon the Mouth tells the protagonists to seek out Samar the Caravan Master.
* Samar the Caravan Master convinces the protagonists to retrieve a strange statue from the Tower of the Serpents.
* Bloody Nikka promises gruesome revenge if the protagonists double-cross Samar.

Jan. 25, 2015: Factions.

Feb. 1. 2015: Casing the tower.

Feb. 8. 2015: Climbing the tower.

Game system details

Kettel was an engineer in Machina's capital city. She spent decades working on some of the kingdom's most ambitious projects when its industrial revolution took off.

About 6' tall with gazelle's horns. Sand-coloured skin with black tips on the hands and face. Kettel still wears a mechanic's suit, even in retirement.

Being part of a tiny minority of Dama in the city, Kettel has heard every racist joke or remark ever made. Usually, she can brush them off and carry on. The worst offenders become victims of petty revenge and a little mechanical sabotage. She feels there's nothing wrong with forcing them to pay a hefty premium for her skills, which are always in demand in the industrial city. being retired, she doesn't treat these requests with any sort of urgency.

Kettel is assisted by a small drone/flying gyro, PAK (Personal Assistant to Kettel). PAK is dark blue and roughly spherical with brass rings around its middle. It hovers around using small rotors on its top and has a single green eye/lamp. PAK is equipped with a small complement of essential tools, and is capable of performing basic tasks on command.

History
"Makes calculated sacrifices"
Kettel was Chief Engineer aboard the 'Valley Echo'.

The 'Echo' strayed too close to Gearwhistle over the Valley of Cogs and was boarded by their forces in disputed territory. The Machina Captain was belligerent and ignored their demands to keep a wider distance from their border.

Kettel and her engineering team took control of the ship from the engine room and turned it back against the Captain's orders. The Captain was taken prisoner, but the rest of the crew were released.

Kettle was dishonourably discharged from service for the Captain's arrest, but was respected by the crew for getting them home safely. She hasn't worked with the airship fleet since.

Dama rarely settle into permanent homes, and even fewer of them ever make livings in cities.
