Life was great for a while: running with the bad boys and girls in town, angling to be a real part of the cabal, and learning real magic. Then everything went wrong. The thing in the woods told me one day that it had taught me enough and that it was now my turn to pay: it wanted me to serve it for seven years. ''Bugger that'', I thought, and ran away thinking that it would be enough. The cabal had mundane criminal activities as well and either set me up for poking around too much or gave me the chance to prove myself that I screwed up.
