By reading the play carefully, and reading between the lines, Jack discovers things about the character of Night; namely his need for recognition. He is also told not to leave town.

At one point, Jack reads an article in the Spectator about the strange occurrences at the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital. Apparently, a group of patients began to act in a manner befitting an order of 15th century knights. The leader of said group is known to the patients as Sir Fall. His true name and picture could not be released due to confidentiality reasons. Jack puts two and two together and figures out where Allan has been all this time. He goes to visit Allan.

The fairy magic that had been placed on Allan to keep him in the Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital had really worked! Allan now believes he is a 15th century knight, living in Fortress (Ward) 2. The drugs he had been taking seemed to help (or hinder) such a belief. Some how, Allan had convinced other patients to join his order of noble knights to defend the helpless (such as those in Ward 3) and act in the ways of honor. The orderlies and nurses, though they do not necessarily approve, do recognize that it makes their lives easier. Unfortunately, the Men of the Cloth (the administration) and the Cardinal (the federal Minister of Health, who was there for a surprise tour and to discuss funding) have taken a less positive view of this, especially when they were all stopped and barred from entering into Ward 3 by the psychotic knights. "Sir Fall", as he is known to the patients, is on a grail quest. That is the only way he could discuss his true quest. Unfortunately, the barbarians in Ward 1 are rising to power. They are rallying behind a leader named Gwendolyn. By reading between the lines that the Blue Sisters (nurses) have said, Allan figures out that Gwendolyn is not a nurse, doctor, or any of the patients he knows about.

At one point, Jack visits Allan. They exchanged information. Or, rather, they tried to exchange information. Allan saw everything through the lens of his delusion, and Jack just saw that Allan was crazy, rather than acting crazy. Mary the Incompetent apparently looks good in a thrown-together medieval outfit.
