Blaze works on the assembly line at the Factory for Production of Bits and Baubles as a welder (fire-breathing comes in handy!). Blaze is approximately human-sized at the beginning of the campaign, but size is a fluid characteristic, as dragons grow or shrink depending on the size of their hoard. Like all dragons, Blaze has trouble understanding human emotions, and is therefore constantly accused of contracting idiocy. This, however, is impossible, as dragonskin is invulnerable to idiocy. This fact is a closely guarded secret among the dragon community for fear of violence.
In most situations, Blaze is an extremely poor liar. However, Blaze cannot ignore the siren call of increasing hoard size, and can usually do what is required to make it happen.
Attempting to fit in as a scholar, Blaze wears a dress shirt, khakis, and glasses, although as a dragon, none of these items are required for comfort nor eyesight.
History[edit]
Downsized his hoard via sell-by-mail system and moved to Riverton. Got a job at Bits and Baubles Production. Now trying to understand humans. Madeleine D'Leau was broke, consented to be a research subject; has to follow Blaze around for a time. Champagne Truffle agrees to tag along but immediately gets into fights with Blaze, who tries to be her friend.

Entry 1:
In order to study human behaviour and how the emotional compulsions influence their non-logical actions, I have decided to perform a case study - I will call this subject "M." This human is particularly compelled by emotional motives, to the degree that even other humans seem to pick up on the absurdity of her actions. In the short time I have observed her, she has involuntarily released tears for the following reasons:
- Saw a "cute" puppy - Ate a piece of candy - Stubbed her toe - Stepped on pet otter's toe - Stepped on an ant - No discernible reason, when questioned, tear production increased and honking noises grew louder
I will have to find other subjects to compare to see if this is average behaviour.
Entry 2: It appears as though finding an additional subject will not be difficult. A new subject, termed "C," has attached herself to subject M and refuses to leave. Subject C is extremely combative. She is also extremely small in stature. I have seen her react in anger (occasionally attempting to initiate combat) to the following:
- Someone mentioned the word "diminutive" in her hearing - She was asked to speak up - She could not reach an item on a shelf and destroyed everything on lower shelves - A male human called her "cute" - Someone said something positive about elves - Someone said something negative about elves - Someone said something neutral about elves
It appears as though each individual case responds with a different emotion to stimuli, but both respond entirely irrationally. I will continue to attempt to elicit these types of responses in both cases.
Entry 3:
The subjects have done something very illogical. They have agreed to illegally acquire an item from a sorcerer that another human would like to add to his hoard, in return for nothing. Apparently, the promise of an adventure, however ill-advised, has provoked a strong response in subject C, whereas the promise of entering a garden has encapsulated the emotional response mechanism of subject M. I am bound to go with them in order to continue my study. This will be a valuable opportunity to study emotional responses in a high-stress environment. However, I would rather they did not go through with the plan, as it is a very dangerous proposition with little reward. The human who wants this extremely ugly statue for his hoard employs a great brute of a woman, Bloody Nicka, to ensure his safety. She attempted to threaten us with skinning. I will burn off her skin if she tries it.
Entry 4:
My old colleague, Kettel the Dama, has reappeared outside the walls of Riverton in the caravan. She is much more logical than the others and I am reassured to have her support on this mission, as I am sure subjects C and M would not be able to properly execute this misadventure without additional assistance. They planned to survey the guard on the tower by causing a distraction, forgetting to check whether a guard was posted on the tower. There was no guard. Hours of work were lost.
This situation is getting a bit hairy, as local government and local criminal elements are involved. It appears the caravan master's hoard inspires jealously among other humans. What savages! However, both parties were extremely gullible, as they promised a monetary reward in return from random items from the tower. While I believe stealing other items from the tower is not a good plan, it is illogical to put so much effort into a mission without the promise of reward money. Subject M promised a meteor from the tower for Hugo the Chairtable. This was an illogical choice, because there is no guarantee that this item will be in the tower. Luckily, Kettel and I have the resources and expertise necessary to falsify a meteor.
We have surveyed the actual security of the tower and have determined that there is a large mechanical beast that guards the tower gardens. Subject M has decided to buy potions. This is ludicrous.
Entry 5:
We have broken into the tower and destroyed the beast. Subject M summoned a large puddle, subject C provoked the beast into lumbering into the puddle, and Kettel used her robot, PAK, to electrocute it. I sat in a tree and stayed out of harm's way.
Subject M has taken to exploring every nook and cranny of the tower. This is an idiotic plan, because we have a limited amount of time to retrieve the items and leave before the sorcerer returned. I will abandon the subject if her actions put my safety at risk.
Subject M has released a light snake from a sealed vase. This is entirely illogical. She is chasing it, although it is clearly dangerous.
The sorcerer must die. He has defaced the remains of the dragon and kept them from rightful repatriation. I will burn everything he holds in regard. I will burn him. I will return the remains of my brethren to the land of the dragons.
Entry 6:
Subject M has sustained injuries from chasing the light snake. I am unsurprised. Her pet otter has dragged her off to a place unknown, presumably for recovery. This is a good example of how acting on emotional impulses can lead to injury.
We have retrieved the statue. I will burn the tower.
Hugo the Chairtable dared to accost us in the street. We made the trade, he seemed to believe subject C's lies. It is possible that her irrationally combative response is linked to an ability to lie. Will have to test.
The governor's trained dog, Helen Thirdcoin stopped us in the street. We made the trade to the governor as well. I have singed a lackey of Hugo the Chairtable. He will think twice about crossing us.
The sorcerer followed us into the street, summoning earth gollums. He escaped before I could destroy him, but I burned and smashed his unnatural creatures. It was not enough, the sorcerer must die.
He reappeared at our hand-off to the caravan master. Kettel and subject C fled. The odds were not in my favor, so I assisted their flight.
I will return the remains of my brethren to our ancestral home, and then return to destroy the vile sorcerer scum.
