Occupation: Not sure yet what her day-job is, but "my occupation is being a (parent) representative on the PTA and the general busy-body of Iceburgh"
Spouse: Hgglar, a rather incompetent Paveo whom "I believe to be brilliant and have been unfairly overlooked. My ambition is that he launch a stellar career as a Deviso (or -- dare I say it -- Scriptio!) by bringing civilization to the two-shed, backwater of Iceburgh. Then, his superiors won't be able to overlook this rising star and we shall return, triumphant, to the capital!" His own ambitions are much humbler, being a gentle and serene soul. An outcast to Jaarl society due to his easygoing nature, he prefers the isolation of Iceburgh to the hustle-and-bustle of the capital. Hgglar tries to be indulgent of !bal in order to appease her ambitious nature. !bal has married up in Jaarl society since Hgglar comes from a much more affluent family that is well connected. His family's status would have guaranteed an easy life for Hgglar but !bal's busy-body ways have led them to be sent off to the backwater of Iceburgh. Hgglar doesn't have the heart to tell !bal that it's her fault and has assured her that this banishment represents an unprecedented opportunity for them.
