Summary of Cooperative[edit]

Cooperative 54 consists of a hybrid Chembu/Commonality deep-space exploration vessel Earendil and its crew of 25. This crew consists of...

5 Ursoid members from the Ursoid culture world Alosso, including Surge
4 Chembu scientist/engineers responsible for and evaluating the hybrid vessels systems
16 other crew members from a wide variety of backgrounds and genotypes (including Octavius Yueh, Jason Venture, and Ursula)

In addition to the crew itemized above, Cooperative 54 includes a semi-autonomous sub-fraction of the Planetary Intelligence referred to as "the Swamp", see below for details.

The Cooperative has several interest groups. These interest groups are not self-contained, a crew member is likely to be a member of several interest groups. Earendil is, of course, a member of all Interest Groups.

These are the standing interest groups.

Command Interest Group: led by Jason Venture. Provide primary direction to the activities of the Cooperative.
Contact Interest Group: led by Gracious Filigree of the Twelfth Exalted Overlay. Provides capability and services for contact with intelligences (hominid and exo) that are encountered.
Security Interest Group: led by Surge of the Glacier. Provides protective and, if necessary, violent services on behalf of the Cooperative.
Technical Interest Group: led by Gyaltsen Mazarine D. Provides engineering and maintanence for Earendil and its crew, including medical support.
Scientific Interest Group: led by Mr. Gordius. Provides scientific services, particularly stellar and planetary survey services.
Archaeological Interest Group: led by Octavius Yueh. Provides historical and archaeological services, particularly with respect to possible Predecessor sites.

There are also temporary interest groups, which form around specific problems or issues and then are disbanded when no longer needed. Here are the temporary interest groups of note.

Autumn Tidal Flow Interest Group: led by Jongey Primrose X. This group is focused on locating the currently lost Chembu deep space bioship Autumn Tidal Flow.

SURGE OF THE GLACIER (Micah)[edit]

Ursoid security chief and Loyal Protector of Commonality Ideals
Surge is a (+1) ursoid xenomorph, with the bearing and dexterity of a man and the stature and features of a polar bear.
Surge joined Space Force shortly after his homeworld, Alosso, entered Stage Three.
While his family held on to some old traditions (like naming), he essentially grew up in the Commonality culture and has a clear sense that Humanity's Destiny is in the Stars.
During aptitude testing, Surge's Affinity for Hierarchy and Large Size earned him a position in security, despite an incidence of acting like a Bear with a Sore Head after an injury.
After being accepted into Space Force, he was outfitted with several upgrades and recieved some training with an energy mace to replace his traditional hammer.
Surge's Empathy for Lost Colonies led him to accept a position with Cooperative 54, searching out other lost colonies. However, he is still acclimatizing to his new position and Unused to Off-World Service.

CHEMBU CONTINGENT[edit]

These crew members are all Chembu, onboard SHIP as consultants and to help evaluate and maintain the radically new hybrid biological/technological components of SHIP. All of them are Melancholy from Separation from the Planetary Intelligence. They are clearly adapted for an aquatic existence, with mostly hairless, slightly blubbery flesh. There is an area on SHIP filled with an organic soup rich in life forms from Chembu, where they typically spend much of their leisure time; the other crew members call this the "Swamp", which the Chembu crew find quite funny for some reason.

These ursoids are all from Alosso, the same world that Surge of the Glacier is from. They were accepted into Space Force Instrumentality as a cohort, a kind of tribute from their world to the Commonality to fulfill what that world's society felt was a duty and responsibility for the benefits brought by contact.

MR GORDIUS AND SHIVE (NPCs)[edit]

A symbiotic pair of mated humanoids from the unique colony world of Shemjin. Mr Gordius is genurgically crafted to ride comfortably on the back of Shive, and while doing so the two are in direct nervous system contact with each other through nerve tendrils in Mr. Gordius fingers and special receptors on Shive's neck.
They are members of both the Security Team and the Cosmology team. While together, upgrade them by one quality step.

Mr Gordius is a small (less than a meter tall) humanoid that is mostly brain and sensory organs, although he can scuttle around pretty well.

Log Entry 1[edit]

Surge and Raaim established a healthy professional relationship through violence.
Ursula established that a) she is not particularly interested in romance, b) she is unflinching in her use of tranquilizers, and c) knows her business.
Octavius Yueh established the benefits of voluntary hangovers.
Earandil established a rapport with the Remainers, and was given a crystal souvenir by them from their central databanks.
Jason Venture established that he is a damn inspiring commanding officer, with his finger on the pulse of the crew.
Course was set for (ζ:06:-3) and the journey was completed in the minimal time.

Log Entry 2[edit]

Planet 7 is inhabited and covered with highly defensible fortresses. Evidence of nuclear war abounds
Planet 10 is a 'snowball', collapsed 3000 years ago by a collision with an automated drone warship
The warship has been deactivated and taken on board Earandil
A "deactivation signal" that emanated from the warship has been replicated by the cooperative, though for some time while the signal was unintentionally strengthened, increased activity on Planet 7 was detected.

Log Entry 3[edit]

Extensive surveillance reveals that swarms of drones attack the human fortresses whenever the signal from the snowball is damped
The cooperative decided to activate the signal, causing the drones to retreat to their bases at the poles of the planet
Jason infiltrates one of the fortresses and reveals to their general that he is from the commonality
The security force is standing by in case an extraction is necessary
Infighting between the fortresses during "peace" time is clear; operatives from a neighbour are present
