History[edit]

Champagne's family the Truffles are the high Elven clan of Machina. Elvenkind are not represented within the government, and instead have a semi-autonomous rule, with elected members of a high council, in which her family are prominent members, and she is a legacy. Her family wanted her initiated into the Lily Leaf Ladies. But Champagne was not interested in this refined lifestyle, and instead secretly used her dance lessons to become extremely proficient in dance-fighting, and wanted to use skills to go out into the world and have some adventures. She rebelled, ran away from home, put out an ad as a troublemaker for hire and now has been sent a mysterious contract of employment by one Pamplemousse Kettlegreen. However, there is very little information on the contract, except that it requires "illustrated use of high level trouble-management". To make sure she has the qualifications, Champagne goes looking to prove herself, and in doing so meets Madeleine D'Leau at an inn. They bond over beer and decide to travel together. Blaze Kindling, who is shadowing Madeleine for research, finds Champagne particularly baffling and has noted her for closer observation. Champagne thinks Blaze is trying to cause trouble. Madeleine D'Leau really "gets" Champagne's rebellion, but holds positive-racist views about Elvenkind. PAK (Kettel's gyro assistant) doesn't trust the young elf. She caught PAK in a net in an earlier (failed) attempt at causing trouble while he on an errand, and attempted to sell him for salvage. He escaped, but Kettel recognises Champagne, and is still wary of the elf.

Champagne puts on a tougher-than-nails act, and is extra sensitive to being stereotyped as graceful or delicate because she is elven-kind. However, despite her bravado she is still sheltered, and new to most of the challenges she and her companions face. She also never anticipated being a killer, so when the stilettos she stole from the sorcerer's tower inadvertently slice through her assailant in the woods, she was shaken quite a bit. But she used her good intentions as a defense of her actions, and instead adds "cold blooded killer" to her growing resume for Kettlegreen. In addition to her share of the loot acquired in the tower heist, Champagne also has a secret stash of invaluable jewels that she emptied from her trust fund vault when she ran away, which are now sewn into her belt.
