Background

On 160.034 Event Horizon Probe Alabaster-Q-8345 Farquahar/Sweet Sixteen established contact with a synthetic culture in system ζ:03:1 of Ghost of Jupiter subsector. This culture had maintained a completely enclosed environment within a highly dense, hollowed-out planetoid in an outer orbit in this system for tens of thousands of years. These synthetics refer to themselves as "Those That Remain", or the Remainers, and were maintaining the environment of the planetoid in hope for return of their creators, whom they refer to as "the Bright Ones".

Farquahar/Sweet Sixteen, having established contact with the Remainers, was quickly able to establish that the "Bright Ones" were an extinct race of aliens previously known to the Commonality as the Jonquil Gasbags (named after their appearance and system of first discovery). Farquahar/Sweet Sixteen took it upon their own initiative to gently convey this evidence of the extinction of their creators to the Remainers. At first, the Remainers reacted very angrily, and briefly took violent control of Farquahar/Sweet Sixteen. But as the information spread among the Custodian Mindscape equivalent a new meme took hold; the Bright Ones may never return, but the Commonality would be an appropriate replacement.

Farquahar remained to establish a seed network, while Sweet Sixteen returned immediately, providing the news to SpaceForceInst ExpBur. Since that time, SpaceForceInst and SCIForceInst have established a joint presence on the planetoid, since nicknamed "The Geode". The Remainers have welcomed the presence of new organic residents to their environment, and the Geode has since become the forward operating base of both SpaceForceInst and SCIForceInst in Alesha and neighboring sectors, due to its relatively (for such a distant Sector) easy access to Tormipidee Pansectorate. The Commonality population on the Geode has now reached nearly 10,000 humans, but it is believed there may as many as 10^6 individual Remainer sentiences. Seed Network Farquahar administers Commonality activities in full consultation with both the Remainers and human inhabitants.

Information exchange between the Remainers and the Commonality has demonstrated that the Remainers themselves are all "descendants" of one of 27 original "Bright One" eidolons, in multiplicit combinations, making the Custodians the largest and most complex "natural experiment" of eidolon engineering known to exist in the galaxy, and one of the few examples of non-human eidolon engineering that have been discovered. Therefore, there is a large MiniEvoPlan research presence on the Geode. The Remainers have been demonstrated to have all four eidolon compliances, but in a unique fashion that causes many conservative MiniEvoPlan administrators to lose a lot of sleep.

It has since been determined that ζ:03:1 was the original home system of the Bright Ones/Jonquil Gasbags. A biosphere on one of the planets contains life forms obviously related to that species, but that planet has since become frigid and nearly lifeless.
